Andrew Kirby: Storytelling
Let’s talk
Every story starts with a conversation.
No two organisations are the same. Neither are the stories they carry.
Some are built on generations of history. Others are just beginning to find their voice. Some know exactly what they want to say but struggle to find the right words. Others sense there's an important story waiting to be uncovered but don't yet know where to look.
That's where our work begins.
Not with writing.
With listening.
Understanding before writing
The strongest stories aren't written in isolation.
They emerge through conversation, research and curiosity.
That might mean speaking to founders and colleagues, exploring archives, reading old reports, interviewing supporters, visiting places that matter, or simply asking the questions that haven't been asked before.
Only when we've understood the story do we begin to write.
Different stories. Different ways of working.
Every project is different, but the work often falls into four broad areas.
Organisational Stories
Helping organisations discover and articulate the stories that define who they are.
This might include heritage projects, company histories, anniversary publications, internal culture, leadership communications, case studies, websites or campaigns that connect people to a shared purpose.
Books & Sport
Researching and writing books that celebrate the people, places and moments that shape sport.
From football history and long-form features to club heritage and supporter culture, these are stories that preserve memory and celebrate identity.
Ghostwriting
Some of the most important stories are never written because the people who lived them don't have the time—or don't think anyone would be interested.
Working closely together, I help transform lived experience, expertise and ideas into books, articles, speeches and thought leadership that remain true to your voice.
Editorial Writing
Long-form journalism, magazine features, essays, blogs, opinion pieces and thought leadership.
Writing that informs, engages and stays with the reader long after they've reached the final paragraph.
How we'll work
Every project begins with a conversation about what matters.
From there, we'll agree the purpose, the audience and the story we're trying to uncover.
Research follows naturally—through interviews, reading, observation and listening.
Only then does the writing begin.
You'll have opportunities to shape, challenge and refine the work throughout the process, ensuring the finished piece feels authentic, accurate and unmistakably yours.
It's a collaborative process built on trust, curiosity and careful attention to detail.
A thoughtful approach
Good writing isn't simply about choosing the right words.
It's about asking the right questions.
It's about recognising the moments that reveal character, purpose and identity.
Whether we're creating a book, documenting an organisation's history, developing thought leadership or telling the story of a football club, the aim is always the same:
To create something honest.
Something lasting.
Something worth remembering.
Where shall we begin?
Every story starts with a conversation.
If you have a project in mind—or simply the feeling that there's an important story waiting to be uncovered—I'd love to hear from you.
Let's have a chat …
