Andrew Kirby: Storytelling

Every voice deserves to be heard.

Every voice deserves to be heard.

Some of the most interesting people never write a book.

Not because they don’t have a story.

Because they’re too busy living it.

Founders. Leaders. Experts. Campaigners. Athletes. People who’ve spent years building organisations, leading change or developing expertise often reach a point where they want to share what they’ve learned—but turning a lifetime of experience into compelling writing is a challenge.

That’s where ghostwriting begins.

Your story. Your voice.

Ghostwriting isn’t about writing someone else’s story for them.

It’s about helping them tell it in a way that feels authentic.

My role is to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions and understand not just what happened, but why it mattered.

Whether we’re creating a book, a series of articles, thought leadership, speeches or opinion pieces, the finished work should always sound like you.

Not like me.

More than writing

Good ghostwriting begins long before the first sentence.

It starts with conversation.

Together we’ll explore your experiences, your ideas and the moments that shaped your thinking.

I’ll help organise complex ideas, identify the stories that bring them to life and build a structure that readers will want to follow.

The writing is only one part of the process.

The real work lies in uncovering what matters.

What we can create together

Ghostwriting can take many forms, including:

  • Non-fiction books

  • Memoirs and personal histories

  • Business and leadership books

  • Thought leadership articles

  • Magazine features

  • Speeches and keynote presentations

  • Opinion pieces

  • Blogs and editorial series

  • Executive communications

  • LinkedIn articles and professional content

  • Podcasting

Every project is shaped around your goals, your audience and—most importantly—your voice.

Podcasting and Thought Leadership

A good podcast should do more than fill airtime. It should help an organisation explain who it is, what it is trying to achieve, and why that matters.

I have extensive experience in producing, writing and publishing podcasts for organisations, working with senior leaders and subject matter experts to turn strategic priorities into conversations that sound natural, engaging and human.

That includes shaping the editorial approach, identifying the key messages that need to land, briefing contributors, developing questions and running orders, scripting introductions and links, and ensuring the final conversation consistently reflects the organisation’s wider strategic narrative — without ever sounding forced or over-scripted.

The principle is much the same as speechwriting or ghostwriting: the right messages need to be there, but they still need to sound like the person saying them.

A good example is the Cyber Sessions series I produced with my team for NHS England Digital. The podcasts were designed to make complex cyber-security issues accessible and relevant while consistently reinforcing the organisation’s wider narrative around resilience, shared responsibility and protecting health and care services. Episodes such as Cyber threats are relentless, but so are we! demonstrate how a podcast can combine expert voices, strong messaging and an engaging conversational format.

Podcasts are particularly powerful because they create space for ideas that are difficult to communicate in a headline, a corporate statement or even a speech. A thoughtful conversation allows senior leaders to explain not simply what an organisation is doing, but why it is doing it — and where it is trying to go.

That can help build understanding and engagement among employees, customers, partners and stakeholders. It can reinforce organisational purpose, create greater connection with strategy and direction of travel, and give audiences a clearer sense of the thinking behind decisions.

Done well, podcasts can also become an important part of an organisation’s thought-leadership platform. They give leaders an opportunity to explore ideas rather than merely announce them, bring other expert voices into the conversation, and create useful, reusable content that can support wider campaigns, social media, newsletters and communications activity.

I can help with the whole process — from the initial idea and editorial proposition through to messaging, scripting, interviewing, production planning and publication — or work alongside an existing team to make sure the finished podcast says what it needs to say while still sounding like a real conversation.

Because the best organisational podcasts don’t sound like corporate communications. They sound like interesting people talking about something that matters.

A collaborative process

Trust is at the heart of every ghostwriting project.

You’ll be involved throughout the process, from our first conversations to the final manuscript.

We’ll explore ideas together, review drafts, refine language and ensure every page reflects your perspective.

My role is never to take ownership of your story.

It’s to help you tell it with clarity, confidence and authenticity.

Why work with me?

For more than two decades I’ve worked in senior communications roles, helping leaders communicate during periods of change, while also writing books, journalism and long-form features that bring complex stories to life.

That combination of strategic communications, editorial experience and published authorship allows me to understand both the craft of writing and the importance of preserving an authentic voice.

Every project is built on careful listening, detailed research and a shared commitment to producing work that’s honest, thoughtful and enduring.

Because the best ghostwriting is invisible.

Readers should never notice the writer.

They should simply hear your voice.
